Jeseníky Two Day Overnight Gramble
There’s a rule in my Grambling* career and that is to carry out a ride that involves a sleeping outside for at least one night. This has to happen once year, that’s a bare minimum to not to forget what it’s to sleep on the ground in your sleeping bag, being moderately cold at night, explore unknown roads, getting dirty, not to brush your teeth and drink beer whenever you want.
So, this is a short story just about that.
*Gravel+Ramble=Gramble
DAY ONE
We started at Moravský Beroun with the help of a train ride, because it was raining the whole morning. First 40 km should be an easy pedal to Vrbno pod Pradědem where would buy food and beers for the night. But, the wind had other plans.
A head wind for the most of the way took a toll on our legs and over 40 km with wind blowing up your nose, eyelids wasn't the nicest thing–such is life.
Once we arrived to Vrbno pod Pradědem everything changed. Wind stopped, we bought food & beers and set off to tackle the last climb to camping spot for the night.
Mist and clouds started to roll in once we hit the 1000 meters of elevation and made for a spectacular ride.
Camping spot was pretty good. We had roof over our heads, outhouse (bring your own toilet paper!) and benches with a table. There was even a fire pit with wood ready. We had a dinner, two beers each and went to sleep. Check this spot out!
DAY TWO
I slept pretty good which surprised me quite a bit. I still felt my legs and wind in my hair from the yesterday’s wind fest. Anyhow, breakfast and then straight uphill for a long time.
The highest point of our overnighter was Dlouhé Stráně. A hydro-pumped plant which is pretty cool to see. Then we carried around a main Jeseníky ridge and through some pretty nice backroads, forests and fields all the way back home.
Our crew had to split because David started to develop a pain in the knee and didn’t want to push it any further so he opted for a train ride back home (his knee is all good, don't worry).
The total of 122 km and over 2000 meter of elevation was pretty exhausting but so rewarding at the same time. I so glad we could do what we could do.
That’s it! Hope you like it.
Would you like to ride as well? Okay, here’s the route, cheers!
