with mom
We head out from home in thick fog, feeling a little bummed that we won’t get to see much. But I tell myself, quietly, that it’s fine—it’ll still be awesome.
As soon as we roll into Vrbno, the fog lifts like magic. Now the sky’s got scattered clouds, patches of blue, and maybe even some sunshine. You can spot the hilltops and the outlines of the forests. Our mood instantly picks up. We park the car, lace up our boots, gear up, and I sling my camera around my neck. Time to hit the trail.
We stick to the marked tourist trail until the asphalt road ends. From there, it turns into a forest path—more of a trail, really—that winds uphill alongside a stream. Walking on the asphalt isn’t great; it’s full of deep tire ruts, super slippery, and honestly, just a pain. But once we hit the trail, everything changes.
The stream hums nearby, and the melting snow adds a peaceful vibe (though I kind of wish the snow would stick around). The only tough part—especially for my mom—is these massive steps eroded by water. Add a layer of snow, and it gets a bit sketchy.
Still, we manage just fine, and soon enough, we spot a clearing in the forest with a gorgeous hunting cabin. Whoever built this place nailed the location—it’s absolutely stunning. If I could, I’d move in right now. But for now, we settle for having a snack here.
With our stomachs full, we keep moving. This time, we veer off the trail into a forest clearing. There aren’t many tracks heading this way.
After a short walk, we come across some rocks, and wow—it’s just beautiful. Right then, the sun comes out, almost as if it’s welcoming us. These rocks are tucked away between young trees, only visible from the opposite, harder-to-reach hills. Not many people venture here, especially in winter. It’s all ours.
Since the rocks stick out of the forest, it’s pretty windy up here. But if we sit down in a sheltered spot, it’s not so bad. We hang out for a while, munch on some apples, soak up the sun, and just stare off into the distance. Honestly, I don’t feel like leaving at all.
Eventually, the wind picks up, as if nudging us to head out. Nature has its way of telling you when it’s time to go. So, we pack up and start walking. From here, it’s all downhill—easy stuff. There’s barely any snow in the forest now, so the trail’s pretty smooth.
Before long, we’re back at the car. The whole trip was amazing, and I’m so glad we came here.
I know it probably sounds boring and unexciting to you, and I get that. But lately, I’ve really been enjoying the simple, everyday things. It’s hard to make every story a blockbuster or top the last one. Sometimes nothing big happens, and that’s okay. You just can't win them all.
