Foreword

I wrote a long story about a hike with my mom and a funny thought I had along the way. But when I put it all together, it was too long, didn’t quite work, and just didn’t look good. I struggled with it for two weeks, trying to make it right. Classic me—the overthinker.

Then yesterday, while in the shower, I thought—fuck it. I’m gonna keep it simple. So I stripped it down to the bare bones and left you with just the thought—because I think it’s worth sharing.

13945

While sitting in front of the cabin and enjoying our lunch, a thought came to me. Do you know how we usually talk about our age in years? When I was young, part of me wanted to be older so I could do the things only grown-ups did—like driving a car to see new places, making money, and buying all the bikes and cameras I wanted. And now, as I get older, I sometimes wish I could be younger—to relive those moments of riding my bike carelessly, not worrying about being home in time for dinner, with the only big responsibility being to finish my homework.

Age is weird that way. This thought led me to convert years to days, just for fun. I find that turning years into days is a cool way to look at our existence. Measuring my life in days gives each moment a more granular, almost tangible significance. It transforms abstract numbers into a series of unique, countable moments, inviting me to appreciate every single day. And when I tie it to photography, I can go back, browse old photos, and feel like I’m traveling back in time.

On this day, it was my 13,945th day alive. Doesn’t that sound more fun? “How old are you?” “I’m 13,945 days old and counting,” instead of just saying 38—that sounds way too boring.

To push this thought even further, once you figure out how many days you’re old, try to estimate how many days you have left. I know we never know what tomorrow holds, but just for shits ‘n’ giggles—I estimate I have 18,262 days left. It could be less, it could be more—I don’t know. How many days do you think you have left?

If you’d like to, let me know here.

Wasting pictures

I've shot tons of photos—which would make this story way too long, as mentioned before. Here’s a gallery to browse if you're keen to check them out.
