Gravel Territory
This is a story about exploring some previously unexplored roads with two main areas where I have only been once or never. I find a great joy in showing my friends new roads and getting them stoked on riding their gravel bikes. Also expanding our gravel territory like we are in a video game. Collecting new roads and seeing forgotten places. That's another thing I like about these exploratory rides. And the bonus of a couple of beers at a local brewery can make the day even better.
This is a well known climb through a beautiful valley with a small stream running through it. Steep hills on both sides that open up at the end of the climb. Occasional sightings of mouflons that live in the forest.
I've only been here once with Romča, we pushed our bikes up. Today I wanted to ride it down and show the boys this neat little shortcut. It's really short and really steep. Look ahead before you ride it down. Both Pavel and David did it with ease, I am proud of them.
I always wanted to try this forest road, but I always passed by it and forgot it was there. Its beginning is an overgrown and forgotten hiking trail that nature is reclaiming back. With caution it is still rideable and goes parallel to the main road. At a crossroads you avoid the asphalt and continue left on a wide gravel road that winds above the main road with some viewpoints, just like the hiking trail before. It used to be a logging road that is no longer in use, I guess. Rough but rideable.
Gravel option if you would like to reach Šternberk on a nice logging road away from traffic or cycle path. I do recommend. There used be a Aleš Inn and only bare remains of the building are left there as a memory.
