Snow in February? Weird.
There’s a quite a big gap between the last ride and this one. I wasn't feeling it and weather wasn't cooperating either, it’s winter after all.
Tuesday evening, my phone buzzed with a text from Pavel. We should go for a ride, it said. Well, I couldn't say no to that. There’s literally no snow around Olomouc so the ride should be pretty mellow. I came up with a route. We were supposed to climb up one valley and cross to another and go down it. Wednesday came and right after work we hit the road.
Light is winning over the darkness of winter. Every day, every second counts towards brighter days. It was actually so nice and refreshing to start the ride with some daylight left.
When we hit the first valley snow started to appear along the road. Then you can see the snow everywhere but road and then road got wet. Temperature went down and finally, it started snowing.
When we reached the crossing between two valleys we were kinda stunned by how much snow there was. Before us a tractor with wide tires drove on the dirt road that supposed to be clear. I was expecting greasy mud with lots of puddles. Tractor’s tire tracks were hard enough to ride on so we pushed our luck and went further not knowing what’s ahead. At least snowing stopped.
In about ten minutes the snow storm started again. Snow flakes in size of a pingpong balls were falling from the sky and we’re supposed to go downhill. This is going to be interesting. Narrow tires, blinding snow flakes and darkness didn't make that too easy. I turned my front light to full power and as a Millennium Falcon we blasted down the hill skidding in snow and laughing. What an adventure we found ourselves in.
Riding down in snow was actually fun and we both enjoyed it despite the cold fingers and feet. I wouldn't go intentionally ride in snow but when it happened like this, why not?!
That’s it. I am going to remember this ride for a long time and on this note go for a ride it’s better than scrolling Instagram.
