Still February
The weather wasn't kind to cycling at the beginning of February in the Czech Republic. Long, cold, mostly grim and darks days were hard to my heart and mind, but when Valentine’s day came and all of a sudden snow melted down a temperatures rose above freezing–that meant cycling.
I called up Pavel, created a route, charged light and right after work we set off for an adventure. Some difficult riding conditions were expected and also neglected but more about that later.
Daylight was very kind, we squeezed out 40 minutes of riding without big lights on.
I am rocking the best light I could ever think of. HOPE R8+ is a beast and when on full blast it blinds all the deer and every creature getting in my way. Its wide spread of light makes for safe riding as you can see more to your sides. Sturdy body and high capacity battery can withstand abuse of the elements and lasts on for a very long time. It’s also a huge help for shooting photos (as you can see of the photo above). I do recommend this light if riding in dark is your thing.
Now, the negligence of what the route might be like. At the half point of the route the conditions bit us in the ass. Forest road covered in half-melted snow was like riding in sand. At first fun to slide around then struggle to ride on. Hopefully it didn’t last for long and we were again on a regular road.
Everything was going smooth and about 3 kilometers before the end a freshly plowed field with soft buttery mud ate up our bikes. We spent 30 minutes of carrying bikes over the rest of field and cleaning them out. Our wheels just simply couldn't spin. What a joy at a side of a field, with bike that’s 7 kilos heavier…
…and that’s what adventures are for and it’s still February after all.
Our night ended at a car wash with lots of memories that will last for a long time.
